Although it is an adventure, solo female travel doesn't mean throwing caution to the winds, however. Here are some random tips to make sure you don't take unnecessary risks and end up in trouble, precisely because you're a single female in a foreign land.

Your best friend is your phone. Seriously, bring one or two, and get a local SIM card if you're staying for a while. Add important numbers, like local police or emergency number, or someone you may know in the city. The difference between being safe and being sorry is being able to call someone.

First of all, determine if your destination is friendly to female travelers, because some cultures frown upon woman traveling without male companions, and harassment can make your trip a living hell.
